Muoy is Khmer for “one”. Soon after his birth, the monks of his hometown village, Kampong Khleang, gave Muoy his name for protection and as a blessing. Raised as a farmer, boat driver and fisherman, Muoy entered the world of fashion when he moved to Siem Reap at the age of 24. Today Muoy has become one of the boldest and most innovative fashion designers of Cambodia. His work has been recognised in the international fashion scene, with prominence in South East Asia.
This year Muoy teamed up with Rokhak Women’s Handicrafts and Butterfly Pea Hotel, to create a world-first “water hyacinth” fashion collection. Inspired by the nature and surroundings of Siem Reap villages, his designs were made in close collaboration with local village artisans. The project aims to donate all of it’s profits to Koh Chiveang Primary School in Preh Toal floating village.
